2018: Indiana Craft Beer in Review

2018 has come to an end. What a wild ride it was.

For our Indiana craft breweries, it was a good year!

There was a slurry of new openings:

Pax Verum Brewing opened in Lapel
Garfield Brewery opened in Garfield Park, Indianapolis
Field Brewing opened a $3.6M taproom and brewery in Westfield
Nailers Brewing opened in Whiteland
Mad Paddle Brewing opened in Madison in late December
Happy Brewing opened in Indianapolis
Mind Over Mash opened in Brownsburg
Moontown Brewing opened in Whitestown
Beech Bank Brewing opened in Beech Grove

New ownerships:

Fountain Square Brewing Company was bought out

New Taprooms and taproom announcements:

MashCraft Fishers opens in the old Heady Hollow spot

Scarlet Lane Brewing announced new locations around Indianapolis

Taxman announces Cityway location in downtown Indianapolis

Upland announces new taproom in Fountain Square

Craft Brewers expanded into distilling:

Sun King opens Sun King Spirits in Carmel, a massive 15,000 Sq Ft. facility

18th Street opens 18th Street Distilling down the road from their taphouse in Hammond

and some legal filings:

3 Floyd’s goes after Abnormal Beer Co. over trademark issues

Wow what a year!

It was certainly interesting and exciting for Indiana craft beer. I personally look forward to what’s to come in 2019.
I think we’ll see more of what 2018 had to offer and maybe a little something extra. Maybe we’ll see another local brewery catch some attention on the national stage like 450 North Brewing did this year! Maybe we’ll see a lot of our favorite foreign brewers enter the Indy markets (there were several of those too!).

I know I’ll be busy with Indy Craft Brew (who also started in March 2018! Woo hoo!)

What will you be up to? What do you think happens in 2019?
