Taxman Brewing – Fortville

Wood, Steel and Belgian-style craft beer. That’s what greets you upon entering the one year old establishment at 29 S Main St in Fortville Indiana. Taxman Fortville is, as described by Taxman Brewing, a brasserie (an informal restaurant, especially one in France or modeled on a French one and with a large selection of drinks – thanks Google!) and tap room.

A formal restaurant area for families or larger groups takes up half of the building. It features wood and iron piped tables, exposed ventilation, pendant Edison-bulb lighting and finally a polished concrete floor.- an industrial look that’s growing in popularity (I’m a huge fan).

The bar area shows off those 16+ taps (32 handles, crazy!) in gorgeous fashion with this elongated steel pipe against the wall facing outward, This allows the polished concrete bar top’s real estate to be used solely for patrons eating or enjoying the libations. This layout should be adopted by every place that serves draft beer, in my opinion. It allows you to sit at the bar and eat if you’re there on your own or with a friend or significant other. No spot is a bad one, aesthetically it’s pleasing to the eye and it really makes the room feel more open.

Most of the beers on tap are rotating. Deduction, Qualified, Exemption and Wit-Held are usually there and also whichever La Maison variant is out at the time. Nearly all of their beers are traditional Belgian made brews, you can read about why here: (https://www.taxmanbrewing.com/brewery/). While you’re enjoying the beers, definitely try out their food. It’s delicious and locally sourced so you might even know where it came from!

If you’re out near Fortville, I encourage you to stop in and check them out. The food, beer and atmosphere are all fantastic. I’ve only ever experienced great service with people who are happy to serve you. I’ve recommended the place to everyone I know. On your way out, check out the small shop area near the front. Pick up some glassware, apparel or a growler/howler to go – they run specials all the time on their beers and they have cans or bottles if you prefer that.

Also, if you’re a member of the Indiana On Tap Tasting Society, you can even get a free flight, a $12 savings!

If you’ve been to Taxman Fortville, let me know what you think in the comments below! I’d love to see what others think!

Until next time… Cheers!
Jake
