As soon as the leaves start to change, and the air turns crisp, I crave the seasonal flavors of nutmeg, pumpkin, and cinnamon. Even if you aren’t a fan of PSLs, the pumpkin ale at Urban Vines & Brewery is worth a try. What’s unique about their recipe is that they use real pumpkin, instead of just a spice mixture. The pumpkin taste is not overpowering; in fact, its present only as an undertone to the overall flavor. The nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla bean are notes that really come through, but they don’t mask the crisp freshness of the ale. It was the perfect beer to enjoy on the first day of fall.
Having just opened last year, Urban Vines sits on a large meadow in Westfield. On most weekends, you can appreciate live music while sitting on the patio. The relaxed vibe lends itself well to spending a few hours sipping on local brews, while the kids enjoy the playground and the over-sized Jenga.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out Urban Vines & Brewery yet, their Deadman Festival on October 13 would be the perfect opportunity. It’s a celebration of their bourbon barrel stout: creamy with notes of coffee and chocolate. Rumor has it that they will soon be offering artisan pizzas, and if there’s a better combination than pizza and beer, I haven’t heard of it.
Fun for the whole family, this venue is one to check out. Have you been there? Let us know your thoughts!
